The Jerusalem cross (also known as "Five-fold Cross", or "cross-and-crosslets") is a Christian cross variant consisting of a large cross potent surrounded by four smaller Greek crosses, one in each quadrant. The Five Crosses are meant to symbolize the 5 wounds that Jesus sustained during his crucifixion. The smaller crosses symbolize the wounds on Jesus’ hands and feet, while the large central cross symbolizes the wound in Jesus' side from the soldier’s spear.
Items in our Widow's Mite Collection hold a genuine "widow's mite" coin, which has been excavated in Palestine. The Widow's Mite Coins date back to first century Palestine. This collection is Immortalized by Jesus' words about the generous widow. The gospel of Luke states that He (Jesus) looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. But he also saw a poor widow put in two copper coins (mites), which was all of the money that she had. Witnessing this selfless act, He said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all the others; they gave from their surplus, but she put in all that she had to live on." - Luke 21:1-4
